The University of Naples “L’Orientale” (hereinafter L’Orientale), founded in 1732, is the oldest school of Sinology and Oriental Studies in Europe and has a strong tradition of language, cultural and social studies, both ancient and modern, relating to Europe, Asia, Africa and the Americas. It has consolidated experience in the field of European and International cooperation through its connection with more than 250 universities in Europe, Africa, Asia and Latin America. Within these international agreements and its traditional activities of education, training, scientific research, in collaboration with local, national and international institutions, UNO promotes activities and projects focused on multicultural relations, antidiscrimination and protection of human rights, international and European relations, European integration, International Law. It also has a consolidated experience in managing European projects, particularly within the LLP Programme and Erasmus+ on related issues.

In strict relation with the above mentioned experiences, the present proposal finds its rationale in the commitment of the University of Naples “L’Orientale” to improve and strengthen existing collaborations with universities in Europe and creating new instruments to improve knowledge on EU issues. The start-up of Module DiCit will contribute to a wider awareness and knowledge of European integration studies; the intensification of existing contacts created by past experiences within Jean Monnet Activities and, moreover, the intensification of the exchanges’ opportunities with colleagues and students from other European and non-EU countries; the reinforcement of the contribution of the University to social cohesion, citizenship, intercultural dialogue, gender equality and the creation of a sense of European citizenship based on respect for human rights, democracy, and encouraging tolerance and respect for other peoples and cultures.
